Selena Gomez is topping the charts this week. The singer’s third studio album Rare has debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 200 chart after moving 112,000 units on its opening week. This becomes Selena’s third studio album to debut at number one.
‘It’s officially out!,’ the singer wrote to her fans in celebration. ‘I was a bit embarrassed asking so often for you to stream or buy my album. It felt inauthentic. Thank YOU so much for making something so personal to me be a moment I’ll never forget. All I truly desire is for you all to enjoy the music and spread the love.’
Not only did the album reach number one, but the lead single ‘Lose You To Love Me’ gave Gomez her first number one single after its release back in November.
Roddy Ricch’s album Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial nearly prevented Rare from debuting at number one. Ricch’s album comes in at number two a month after its release in early December. Billboard credits this to a sales increase after the single ‘The Box’ went viral – especially on Tik Tok. Impressive!
Regardless, this is Selena’s week. What a great way to start 2020. She definitely deserves it.
