Ricky Martin maybe should stop livin’ la vida loca.
The 50 year-old Puerto Rican singer is being sued for over $3 million by former manager Rebecca Drucker. She alleges that he owes her unpaid commissions after she ‘saved’ his career. Drucker used to manage Martin from 2014 to 2018. However, Martin’s career suffered some serious damage shortly thereafter. She claims that he asked her back from 2020 to 2022 because his “personal and professional life were in absolute turmoil.” Yikes!
It all comes down to some mysterious occurrence in late 2020. The court documents show the singer “was threatened with a potentially career-ending allegation” and that Drucker helped him come out of it “unscathed.” We can only wonder what that was.
What is true is that his career saw a revival post-pandemic. Drucker helped Martin secure the co-headlining spot in a North American tour with fellow Latin pop superstar Enrique Iglesias. The court documents also mention that she aided Martin with many other deals that helped him make a significant sum of money.
Here’s an excerpt from the lawsuit that covers that:
“Rebecca agreed and resurrected Martin’s career in every way. She provided him with invaluable services as his manager and top advisor. Rebecca guided Martin on his recording contracts, touring and sponsorship deals, and other professional endeavors. Rebecca worked tirelessly for Martin, including on his recent North American tour with Enrique Iglesias. With Rebecca at his side, Martin made millions of dollars and therefore owes Rebecca substantial commissions. Not since “Menudo” and his meteoric rise as a solo artist in the late 1990s has Martin enjoyed such success.”
She wants her cut!
But that’s not all. When Drucker asked for her slice of the pie, Martin created “a toxic work environment wherein he constantly mistreated, manipulated, and lied” to her. He refused to pay her for her work ultimately forcing her resignation.
