Lorde is opening up about how perhaps made a mistake by staying away from social media over the last couple of years.
The 24 year-old singer from New Zealand opted to delete social media apps from her phone and give her management her passwords during lockdown to avoid the negativity those mediums can produce. But in a new letter to fans, she explains how this brought upon a bigger sense of loneliness during an already lonely time.
“The decision to step back from social media has been something I’ve really questioned through this time,” she writes. “I was so sure skipping the negatives would outweigh missing out on the positives. But I’ve really, really missed you. I’m trying to think about how best to balance the digital diet, in a way that feels fun and connected for me and you, but not at the expense of our attention, time, or happiness.”
The singer did step out of the shadows during the summer to release her highly-anticipated third studio album Solar Power to mixed reviews. She also announced a big world tour that will see her play theaters across North America, Europe, and Australia.
