A little over a week ago, we exclusively reported via a tweet that Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande would perform their hit ‘Rain On Me’ for the first time ever at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards later this month. MTV has now confirmed the news.
It made a lot of sense for them to perform this together at the VMAs considering that ‘Rain On Me’ earned both Gaga and Grande seven nominations.
#LadyGaga and #ArianaGrande are performing at the MTV VMAs on Aug. 30. They join previously announced performers J Balvin, BTS, and Doja Cat. Keke Palmer is set to host. Performances will take place in outdoor stage instead of inside the Barclays Center due to the pandemic. #vmas pic.twitter.com/rJkFmGM7Ux

Additionally, Gaga is also nominated for Artist of the Year and her performance of ‘Smile’ during the One World: Together At Home event earlier this year. Grande is tied with Gaga for most nominations with nine each as she is up for Best Collaboration and Best Music Video From Home for ‘Stuck with U’ with Justin Bieber.
Gaga is set to perform more songs from her album Chromatica – which has been hard to promote due to the coronavirus pandemic. It is unusual for pop stars to not perform any songs from a new album almost three months after its release. Despite the lack of promo, Gaga’s album managed to debut at number one.
MTV has announced that a lot of the performances will take place in an outdoor stage in New York City. However, there is no confirmation of whether or not Gaga’s performances will take place there.
Previously announced performers include J Balvin, BTS, Miley Cyrus, Doja Cat, Maluma, CNCO, Roddy Ricch, and The Weeknd.
