When you want to be the host of an expo at the world stage, you want the biggest boy band in the planet to help. Thankfully for Korea, that is the case with BTS, as they have appointed them ambassadors for their bid to host the 2030 World Expo in Busan.
“We are honored to be appointed ambassadors for World Expo 2030 Busan,” RM said in a statement. “BTS will do our best to support in bringing the World Expo 2030 to Busan. We will also make extra efforts to not only support the nation’s bid but also promote the beautiful nature and culture of the Republic of Korea worldwide.”
Busan is one of the many cities competing to win the hosting privileges for the event. Rome (Italy), Odesa (Ukraine), and Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) are also bidding for the event to take place at their respective cities. The decision will be announced at the Global Assembly in 2023.
BTS will help via many different campaigns and projects. One of the things they are doing to help is performing a concert in Busan this October. More details about the show will be announced in coming weeks.
The Prime Minister of South Korea, Han Duk-soo, commended the septet on undertaking this role as ambassadors.
“The most essential part to our success would be the support from Korean citizens as well as the global community,” he said in a statement. “We believe that BTS will take the most pivotal role during the process. With support from BTS and our people, we will be able to achieve our goal.”
