Billie Eilish opened up about her struggles with depression in a recent interview with Gayle King on CBS. She revealed that she almost took her own life just two years ago when her career was on the brink of taking off. She is also trying to help out her younger fans after her own experience.
‘I was so unhappy, and I was so joyless,’ she said. ‘I genuinely didn’t think I would make it to 17. I think about this one time I was in Berlin and I was alone in my hotel, and I remember there was a window right there. I remember crying because I was thinking about how the way I was going to die was. I was going to do it.’
She then told King that the reason why she didn’t do it was her mother. The support system her and her brother Finneas have created for each other with their parents as well is nothing short of admirable. They are so close that they still live in the same small house they have been living in since Billie was a child.
Eilish then went on to talk about how sometimes she notices the cuts on her fans’ arms. ‘I just grab them by the shoulders and I’m like, ‘Please take care of yourself and be good to yourself and be nice to yourself. Don’t take that extra step and hurt yourself further.”
Billie is set to perform at the Grammy Awards this Sunday. She is up for six awards including the coveted Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist.
