Alessia Cara Leads Canada’s JUNO Awards

Peter Stavros

Alessia Cara, one of the most underrated Canadians of all time, is rightfully being recognized by her home country in March at the JUNO Awards. Unlike the GRAMMYs, they actually nominated her for something. Well not just anything, she is nominated for a whooping six awards and the hosting gig. I love Alicia Keys and her warmness, but she’s not the Steve Jobs of hosting. Maybe Alessia can do it better.

Some big Canadian stars nominated at the event include the best heartthrob since I can remember Shawn Mendes with three nominations, a not-as-attractive-heartthrob but kind of OG with this new generation Justin Bieber with just one nom, emo goddess who might not actually be her Avril Lavigne with two noms, and new Michael Jackson impersonator The Weeknd with one nomination.

International Album of the Year has a very pop-friendly list of nominees. Ariana Grande’s thank u next, which will likely lose again to Billie Eilish’s WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? Ed Sheeran’s No. 6 Collaborations Project is also nominated alongside Khalid’s Free Spirit and Post Malone’s Hollywood Bleeding.

The awards are taking place March 15 in Saskatoon. The only performers announced for the event so far include R&B singer Daniel Caesar, pop artist Lennon Stella, rock band the Glorious Sons, and rapper Tory Lanez.
