Lauv is making moves. The singer, who released a beautiful collab with Troye Sivan earlier this year, is embarking on a world tour in support of his upcoming debut album, ~ how I’m feeling ~. This tour will take him to cities across North America, Europe, and Australia in a two month period. Talk about a daunting trek.
In a recent Instagram post, Lauv got candid about the thought process behind his upcoming album. It has not been easy for the singer to find the creativity, passion, and inspiration to come up with this new work. It took him a while to get there, and at times even felt a great sense of self-doubt.
He writes (shortened):
‘Last I set out to start writing and recording my debut album. Along the way, I constantly found myself feeling anxious, guilty, and empty. I started to fall out of love with music. I started questioning everything from my career path to what I thought I loved. I was lost to say the least. After an extreme bout of intense obsessive anxiety and depression, I finally decided to I really needed to get to the bottom of it. I was urged to go see a psychiatrist. After staying the course, I started to recognize my obsessive bad thoughts was not based on rational events or thinking.
I started falling in love with music again and I started being able to write songs again. Everything about the way I started to feel was so real. Over the past couple of months, the feeling of ‘oh fuck maybe I’m not gonna be able to make this album’ switched to ‘holy shit I’m more excited than ever about this music and the message and the possibilities.”
From that experience, he made a decision to release the songs from his upcoming album track by track as opposed to waiting until the entire project was complete to release it as a whole.
‘I decided that rather than waiting to release a bunch of songs that may or many not still feel relevant to my life by the time they come out, I wanted to tell the story as it happened. Rather than waiting until I had the whole album done, I wanted to release it as I made it. The songs are just gonna keep coming. Piece by piece. Story by story.’
Exciting! So look out for songs from ~ how I’m feeling ~ in the coming weeks and months.
The tour kicks off in early October and wraps up in late November. Pre-sale starts April 8. He will be joined on the road for different dates by bulow, Chelsea Cutler, and Carlie Hanson.
