Ryan Adams is in trouble.
The famed singer, and as many would agree musical genius, is the subject of the latest allegation exposé by The New York Times. In it, many of his former partners and female musical mentees claim that he is a sexually manipulative, emotionally abusive control-freak. And, they detail some instances where their careers were diminished by his crazed behavior.
Mandy Moore, who was married to Adams from 2009 to 2016, reveals that he lured her in by promising to record a lot of songs with her for her next album. However, none of those songs were recorded – at a time when a well-produced album would have been vital for her success as a musician.
‘His controlling behavior essentially did block my ability to make new connections in the industry during a very pivotal and potentially lucrative time — my entire mid-to-late 20s,’ she tells The New York Times.
There’s also an account of a girl that was underage, 14 or 15, who started communicating with Adams, who was 40 at the time, digitally. The girl was an aspiring and ambitious bass player, who was making somewhat of a name for herself. Throughout their conversations, Adams obviously promised her great success. But, the gross characteristics of a predator like him ensued. Not to mention, she was a minor – a text from him reads ‘i would get in trouble if someone knew we talked like this’ and ‘If people knew they would say I was like R Kelley lol.’
He asked her for photos and instructed her to do sexual behaviors through Skype calls and messages. It is quite a disturbing account. One time, when they decided to connect over Skype, he was naked as soon as the camera went live. And unfortunately, this relationship with Adams completely ruined this girl’s musical ambitions as she grew scared of the idea of having to sleep with men for success.
Of course, Adams through his lawyer denied every single bit of reporting on this NYT article. However, in this new wave of Me2’s it will be impossible for Adams to avoid this. Allegations speak louder than anything nowadays, and it is fair to say that his career is in danger. The fact that there are so many women contributing to this story makes it more likely to be true.
That’s why I listen to BRYAN Adams instead, ha!
