Oscars 2019 Nominees: Lady Gaga, Bohemian Rhapsody, Kendrick Lamar

Oscar season is upon us. Today, the Academy announced the nominees for the 91st annual award ceremony. And to no surprise, movies such as The Favourite, Roma, Vice, and A Star Is Born are the most nominated films in the various categories.

Taking a closer-look at music-related films and actors, Lady Gaga received two nominations and made history. She is the first woman to be nominated for Best Actress and Best Original Song for the same movie in the same year. The movie in which she stars, A Star Is Born, garnered a total of eight nominations – including Best Picture. The Queen-biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, is also nominated for the big category of the night. Additionally Rami Malek, who plays Freddie Mercury, is nominated for Best Actor.

Along with Gaga for ‘Shallow,’ Kendrick Lamar’s Black Panther song ‘All The Stars,’ ‘I’ll Fight’ by Diane Warren for the documentary RBG, Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman’s ‘The Place Where Lost Things Go’ from Mary Poppins Returns, and ‘When A Cowboy Trades His Spurs For Wings’ from The Ballad of Buster Scruggs are all nominated for Best Original Song.
