It was a night of little expectation, but great surprises.
Everyone thought Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born was going to dominate the night at the 76th Golden Globes last night in Los Angeles. Having so much hype behind it, numerous wins at other cinematic ceremonies, and a total of five nominations, it was the favorite to win. However, Queen’s biopic film Bohemian Rhapsody, as well as Mexico’s new movie Roma, proved to be a challenge for Mother Monster’s first big-screen acting gig.
Rami Malek, who plays Queen’s legendary frontman Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, took home the award for Best Actor in a Drama. While the film itself won the award for Best Drama. Both categories were also in contention from Bradley Cooper as an actor and A Star Is Born as a movie. Cooper also fell short against Alfonso Cuaron (Roma) in the Best Director category.
Lady Gaga did win her second Golden Globe ever last night for her work on the film’s hit song ‘Shallow’ alongside Mark Ronson. However, Glenn Close took the Best Actress award for her work on The Wife.
The internet ~ more specifically Lady Gaga’s little monsters (and some critics too) ~ went berzerk at Bohemian Rhapsody’s best film victory. Some saying that the Oscars will set things straight next month.
Taylor Swift did show up to present the Best Original Song award to Gaga and company. Apart from that, not much else happened music-wise. It was a very shallow edition of the Golden Globes.
