2019 is here and this year promises to be a big one for music. Everyone from the likes of Madonna to Lady Gaga (yikes!) are putting out new albums this year. So, I’ve put together the top 10 albums I am looking forward to this year.

Sheryl Crow

Sheryl Crow is releasing what she says is her final album this 2019. What will become her 11th studio album is rather special. Not just because it will be her final one, but because it will have a number of guest singers. The album will be a duets album. Stevie Nicks and Keith Richards are among the people supposedly collaborating with her on this new record. It does not have a name or release date yet, but I cannot wait to see what she is able to put together.

Madonna

The follow-up to 2015’s excellent Rebel Heart is almost complete. Madonna, the incomparable and undisputed queen of pop, is coming back for her 14th studio album. She has been living in Europe for the last few years, and has been visiting a lot of countries in the region – even going a little south to Morocco recently. It is likely that she pulled a lot of inspiration from those cultures she has been able to experience. I love Madonna, and there is no way this album won’t be amazing.

Coldplay

My favorite band is set to hit the studio in 2019. The thing with Coldplay is that it is possible that their album won’t be due until 2020, but the possibility of new music is high towards the end of 2019. They had suggested that A Head Full Of Dreams would be their last, but that just isn’t going to happen. Matt Whitecross, who directed the concert docu-film of their last album, recently revealed that they are getting back to work after taking an entire year off. Cool stuff!

Carly Rae Jepsen

The most underrated pop singer out there is gearing up for the release of her fourth studio album in 2019. The Canadian gave us a taste of what she has in store this new year with lead single ‘Party For One,’ one of my favorite tunes of 2018. She describes the themes of the album as ‘romantic love but self-love too,’ which is apparent in that first song out now.

Adele

The goddess is coming back.

Adele, one of the most unbelievable voices of recent generations and the queen of sad ballads, is coming back this year. The singer has been laying low since her mega-successful tour in 2016 – which she insists is her last tour ever. I personally doubt it, and a tour for this comeback album would likely make box office history. The album is rumored to be out by Christmas.

The 1975

The 1975 are giving their fans a huge treat. This year they put out A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships, part one of two of what they are calling the Music For Cars era. And, that will happen in the spring of this year. On May 31, 2019, The 1975 is expected to release Notes On A Conditional Form via Dirty Hit Records. I wonder if they will keep the ingenious styles of their last album in this new one.

Lana Del Rey

Norman Fucking Rockwell is the name of Lana Del Rey’s upcoming sixth studio album. ‘Venice Bitch,’ the nostalgic bop that she put out last year, and ‘Mariners Apartment Complex’ are the only songs we’ve heard from the album so far. It seems like this will be another classic Lana album that will surely put your emotions to the test.

Avril Lavigne

Avril made her comeback in 2018 with the release of the single ‘Head Above Water.’ At the same time, she announced an album of the same name to be released Feb. 15 of this year. Commercially, the single didn’t do as well as expected – but after so many health complications over the years it’s good to see that she’s back. I’m very excited to listen to this new album.

Lady Gaga

Enigma, her residency show in Vegas, just opened last week to rave reviews. Gaga has been busy getting ready for this show and with promotion of her unbelievable performance on A Star Is Born. However, it is true that she has not released a solo album since 2016’s Joanne. It is expected that she will put out her next album this year. With Joanne taking an interesting turn to a more stripped-down, rock-meets-folk sound, it would be cool to see her return to her dance-pop roots once again.

Rihanna

Rihanna has been MIA in music for a few years now. She has not released any music since she put out her album Anti in 2016. In between a lot of fashion projects and photo shoots, she has been working on her ninth studio album. Recently, a fan asked her on Instagram when she would release new music and she simple said ‘2019.’
