Aretha Franklin has passed away at the age of 76, according to her publicist. The queen of soul died surrounded by family at her Detroit home.
Over the last week, we reported about her deteriorating health. She was seriously ill and receiving hospice care at home despite being in good spirits. Franklin has been battling a serious health issue since 2010, which has remained a mystery since her family has refused to make it public.
Franklin was instrumental in the world of music, more specifically in the R&B and soul genre. She broke barriers and records like no one else. She is an 18-time Grammy Award winner and has sold over 75 million albums worldwide.
A tribute concert is taking place this November at Madison Square Garden.
She will be missed. Rest easy, Aretha.
